Natural Homes

Natural homes are dwellings built of dirt such as adobe or earth bags, straw and stone which are sustainable and non toxic materials, and if constructed properly they can last for hundreds of years. These types of homes can be self constructed in rural areas with minimal construction knowledge and skills and be built for 30 cents on the dollar if costs are carefully controlled. These structures can provide a comfortable as well as wonderful living environment. However, please be advised that financing and reselling these types of structures can be difficult as they are not of the standard acceptable building practices. Inroads are being made into the financing of these types of structures, but you must shop around to find financing. I have been involved in and done extensive reading on the construction of these types of dwellings and find them as a fully acceptable means of construction, but the structures must be properly constructed, protected from the environment to last and or correctly insulated and solar oriented to perform properly. Also be aware that conventional architects and designers often know very little about rural living and sustainable earth home style design in general.
