Stained concrete flooring is an excellent alternative to carpeting which has a useful life of approximately 15 years on average. There are a few recyclers in existence for carpet so most all carpeting ends up in landfills. Carpets also trap all kinds of contaminants including dust mites, animal dander, spores, fungus, molds, lawn fertilizers, pesticides and more as well as off gas volatile organic chemicals. An alternative to nylon carpeting is natural carpets but wood flooring, tile and stained concrete floors is a much healthier way to go. Stained concrete flooring is the most sustainable and environmentally friendly choice of them all, and it can be very attractive as well as shown below.
